In â€Å"The Lottery vs. The Rocking-Horse Winner† we are analyzing the similarities and differences in setting from a fictional viewpoint between these two short stories. II. Body A. What are the similarity and differences of†¦show more content†¦The â€Å"when,† in â€Å"The Rocking-Horse Winner† is quiet a mystery, however the where in more conclusive. Almost the whole story plays of in â€Å"The House,† the very pleasant but haunted house. Taking into consideration when and where these two stories took place, one can come to the conclusion that they are very different in setting, as the one playoff in a town square and the other in a house. In â€Å"The Lottery† we can determine the exact time of the setting, whereas in â€Å"The Rocking-Horse Winner† we are not determine the exact time of the setting. Looking at the atmosphere within the setting of â€Å"The Lottery† and â€Å"The Rocking-Horse Winner,† one can make a clear perspicacity that the atmosphere of these two stories had a great role to play and impact on the characters. Even though it is a lovely clear and sunny day in â€Å"The Lottery, † the atmosphere is one of depression, stress, nervousness and fear. This impacted the characters in â€Å"The Lottery† as they anxiously waiting upon the Mr. Summers and the black box, no one was laughing but rather just smiling and all the women wore faded clothes. The atmosphere within the setting of â€Å"The Rocking-Horse Winner,† was also one of depression, stress, anxiety and fear. Although not all the symptoms were present in all of the characters, Paul’s mother was the one that had all the symptoms due to the lack of money.
